Mon histoire
My name is Stephen, and, after five full years, I am entering my very last semester ever at the University of Cincinnati. I'm pursuing a dual degree in both Chemistry and in French. At UC, I am in the University Honors Program and involved in UC Choruses and UC Young Life College. After completing five years at UC, I've been able to look back at the ways I've grown in my personal live, as a young professional, and as a global citizen scholar. Much of that growth has involved the University Honors Programs and the ways it has supported me to pursue finding out exactly who I'm designed to be. I have many passions I am happy to be able to pursue further at UC. First, I am very passionate about the French language and culture, and I began college looking forward to earning a French minor, having begun earning credits for it in during my first Honors Experience, the Honors Seminar: Contemporary Paris in spring 2015. This seminar gave me the opportunity to visit Paris for the first time. In the fall of 2015, I continued pursuing this passion by taking two French courses, enabling me to grasp and strengthen new skills and knowledge of the French language and culture. However, two years I made the jump to transitioning this pursuit to a full degree, as the passion has only grown, and my third honors experience during the summer of 2017 led me to study abroad in Lyon, France for six weeks. Another passion of mine is music. In UC Choruses, I am able to grow musically with other students who are not music majors as we learn and perform classical choral arrangements throughout the year. Many of my very favorite people were those whom I met in my time singing in this group, and I am so thankful for the relationships and the musical moments it has brought me. Finally, and most importantly to me, I am growing so much in my faith here in Cincinnati. I was so blessed to be introduced to Young Life during fall semester of my freshman year, and have been very excited to begin leading college students at UC. Many of my closest friends have come from this community. I have been surrounded by people who ask me hard questions about my heart and who are constantly pushing me to grow as a leader and disciple in Christ. I hope that for the remaining (one semester) of my career in Honors, I am able to complete my growth in my leadership skills, becoming increasingly comfortable and confident with leadership positions. I also hope to engage very often in the community around me at UC and in Cincinnati with UHP. My hope is that no matter I am doing, that Christ is able to shine through me. I hope all my work and all my passion and the way I treat others is able to show others His goodness and love. The title of this portfolio is "C'est tout pour Lui," or "It's all for Him," and that is something that I want to remember for the rest of my career in Honors, at UC, and for my whole life. |
aTop: During winter break, I went on a hiking trip in the Smoky Mountains with my sister and two of our friends. My sister, Esther, is a third-year Photojournalism student at UC, and she took this photo of me at Max Patch, our first destination of the trip.
Middle: Every summer, Tupper Lake, NY hosts the most incredible event in America. It's called the Woodsmen Games, and it's an awe-inspiring display of middle-America and red-neckedness. This is the 2019 Saranac Villiage Intern team, and five of our boys placed first in the Grease Pole Challenge this year (FIRST TIME EVER!!!!). This event involved 5 men standing on each other's shoulders, and climbing up a 35-foot tall tree, which is completely lathered in Crisco. It is absolutely ridiculous, and completely hilarious. Bottom: I volunteer with a ministry called Young Life, and every year we have an end-of-the-year Banquet. This is me and my great friend and Co-Leader Gwen Constand at the Spring 2019 Banquet; we thought we were cute and had to pose. |
